The series of research and manuscripts comprises four sub-series. The file of the study of specialization in England and Wales includes informational material, notes of interviews, clippings, rough manuscript drafts, working papers, and the typescript form of the manuscript. The study of specialization in the United States consists of research and reference file of a study project on group practice and the manuscript "Specialization in Medicine" prepared in 1968. The project on health service in Tanganyika contains mainly informational material, research notes, drafts and manuscripts. The sub-series of other academic papers includes records of three proposals for researches in 1980s on health care in the Delaware Valley and in the state of Pennsylvania, and for a study of the development of American hospitals in the century; an article on foreign medical graduates; syllabuses and reference of medical care courses taught by Stevens in 1968-1970, and a thesis on politics of social welfare done by someone with help from Stevens.

Stevens, Rosemary, 1935-

Rosemary Stevens was born in England and had her undergraduate education in English literature at Oxford University. She came to the United States in 1961 and completed her doctoral program in epidemiology and public health at Yale University in 1968. She started teaching at the University of Pennsylvania in 1979. She was chairman of the Department of History and Sociology of Science from 1980 to 1991 and the first woman dean of Penn's School of Arts and Sciences from 1991 to 1996. F...
